New city. New godkid. Same old Cosmo and Wanda.

"Hazel moved to the city, feelin' all alone
Till her whole life changed with a pair quite strange,
'Cause in re-al-ity, they're her new...
ODD-PARENTS! Fairly OddParents!

(Wanda: Wands and wings!)
(Cosmo: Floaty crown-y things!)
ODD-PARENTS! Fairly OddParents!
It's a new wish for magic hijinks!

(Hazel Wells: Fish guy, pizza fries, penny-farthing dirtbike rides!
Ghost snoops, major whoops, baryonyx time loops!)
Pretty great, you've got it made with FAIRLY ODDPARENTS!"

The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is a 2024 animated fantasy comedy and Sequel Series to Butch Hartman’s seminal Nickelodeon comedy The Fairly OddParents!. It is developed by Daniel Abramovici, Ashleigh Crystal Hairston (Craig of the Creek), Lindsay Katai (Infinity Train), and Dave Stone. Butch Hartman remains involved as executive producer.

Having at long last parted ways with their beloved godchild Timmy Turner and spent the last 10,000 years in time-traveling retirement, fairy godparents Cosmo (Daran Norris) and Wanda (Susanne Blakeslee) are dusting off their wands and returning to the modern day to grant the wishes of a new kid in need - 10-year-old Hazel Wells (Hairston). Hazel’s just moved to the bustling city of Dimmadelphia with her family and is coping with her brother Antony leaving for college, so she could really use a friend… or a pair of fairy godparents to grant her every wish and make everyday a blend of magic and chaos.

The series officially premiered on Nick in the US on May 20, 2024 following a sneak preview on May 17. Internationally, the series will stream on Netflix.

The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish includes examples of the following:

  • Affirmative-Action Legacy: Cosmo and Wanda’s first godchild after the Caucasian male Timmy Turner is the African-American female Hazel Wells.
  • Art Shift: The 2D art style of the original series is sometimes used, usually in the title cards.
  • Art-Shifted Sequel: This take on the franchise is CGI, rather than 2D.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In series tradition, the pilot sees Hazel wishing to fly… and then crashing a flying cardboard box.
  • Canon Discontinuity: Disregards the events of The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder as Timmy is said to have grown up and separated from Cosmo and Wanda as usual for any fairy godparents, with Cosmo and Wanda having spent their time since separating from Timmy time-traveling to the point that they experienced 10,000 years from their perspective.
  • Childish Tooth Gap: To contrast with Timmy’s buck teeth, Hazel has a gap in between her front teeth.
  • Continuity Nod: The actor who plays a bus driver in "Fly" is a visual homage to Timmy Turner's adult appearance in the original show's first episode "The Big Problem".
  • Contrasting Sequel Setting: While the original series was located in the suburban setting of Dimmsdale, A New Wish is set in the big city of Dimmadelphia.
  • Costume Evolution:
    • Wanda’s simple yellow shirt from the original series is now a button-up shirt with a frilly collar and instead of black pants and black shoes that blend into each other, she wears pink pants and yellow shoes. Cosmo is mostly the same, but he wears a belt.
    • Jorgen’s design now includes an argylle sweater-vest and a face of grey Perma-Stubble.
  • Distant Sequel: The series takes place decades in the future, with Cosmo and Wanda getting a new godchild after Timmy grows up and moves on.
  • Fish out of Water: Hazel moved from suburbia into the big city of Dimmadelphia and feels out of place there.
  • More Diverse Sequel: Aside from Hazel herself being black, she also has a classmate who uses they/them pronouns, one of her schoolmates appears to be wearing a hijab, three of her teachers are people of color and the show also introduces the first named black fairy, Cookie.
  • Painted CGI: The series presents itself in CGI, albeit rendered to look similar to the original series.
  • Shown Their Work: In "A Dinosaur in Dimmadelphia", Hazel correctly points out that pterosaurs and marine reptiles are not dinosaurs.
  • Stop Faux-tion: Similar to Big Nate, the series uses a Painted CGI look but with minimal, jittery movements at 12 frames-per-second, to mimic the original 2D animation of the original show.
  • Time Skip: Relative to the previous series, 'A New Wish' takes place sometime in the future, not just long enough for Timmy to turn 17 but also for Dale Dimmadome, a 12 year old from the original series, to grow up enough to have a 10 year old son of his own in Dev.
  • Time Travel: This trope is what Cosmo and Wanda have been doing since their retirement. Despite the sequel series taking place in the modern day, from Cosmo and Wanda's perspective, it's been 10,000 years since they've been Timmy's godparents.
  • Younger and Hipper: A New Wish has a more modern setting in Dimmadelphia, and some of Hazel's classmates are influencers and online content creators.
